Lella and Massimo Vignelli

Lella & Massimo Vignelli are two Italian designers internationally known for their elegant, functional and timeless approach in the fields of graphic, industrial and furniture design. Their careers have been distinguished by their ability to combine geometric shapes, simplicity and stylistic rigor.
Massimo Vignelli (Milan, 1931 – New York, 2014) was one of the most influential designers of the 20th century, with works ranging from logo and visual identity design to interior design and product design.
With Lella Vignelli (Udine, 1934 – New York, 2016) he founded their design studio, Vignelli Associates, in New York in the 1960s. Together, they created iconic works such as the signage system for the New York City subway, the American Airlines logo and the furniture design for companies like Poltrona Frau and Knoll.
Their style was characterized by the use of essential shapes, bold colors and a design vision that avoided excess. Their philosophy was based on the belief that design should be functional, understandable and, at the same time, beautiful.
