Alberto Garutti

Alberto Garutti (Galbiate, 1948 – Milan, 2023) was an architect, artist, and teacher, as well as one of the leading figures in Public Art.
For Garutti, places are defined by the human relationships that activate them. The landscape with which the artist constantly interacts is a lived landscape, at the center of which the artist ideally places himself, inhabiting it.
His public art interventions are capable of involving passersby, making them protagonists of the work itself.
With his works, Garutti breaks the outdated logic that sees public art as landing in urban spaces as a foreign and alien object, without any relation to the social and urban context in which it is inserted. It is the words of people, their glances, and their movements that bring his interventions to life.
